My Approach

 

It’s overwhelming how many maladies and diseases in the body originate in the gut!

Did you know your gut;

* Helps develop the immune system right from birth
* Is the largest endocrine organ, secreting over 30 hormones
* And, it has a brain of its own, meaning it can operate completely independent of your other brain…. the one in your skull.

The gut plays a large role in our immunity, hormone regulation, blood sugar, and the health of our brain!
The gut is actually called the “second brain” because it has more neurons than the spinal cord.

This would imply that the gut has a much larger function than just digestion.
Your gut and your first brain are in constant communication. The gut passes along signals to the brain and vice versa. It alerts the brain of any potential stress or danger. Your gut is your largest sensory organ, and it’s communicating information to you all the time.
Think of your gut as the gatekeeper. Even though it’s technically inside your body, the gut determines what enters your body from the outside world. It determines what gets let in and what should be kept out. With all of this in mind.............

 

I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected.

Fundamentally we're all individuals, and that's the approach I take. I'm never going to suggest you do or eat something that goes against your ethics, beliefs or human abilities.

As we work together, we will look at how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole.

I work with my clients to get in touch with their body’s needs because I understand that life happens and your needs will change. I want to equip you with the self-awareness to make the best decisions for yourself in any given circumstance. I believe each person is fully capable of making well-informed decisions as their own expert, not the latest magazine article or fad diet book.

Let’s define what you value most from your well-being. We’ll use these visions to motivate specific goals that bring you closer to where you want to be. As your coach, I will not dictate a diet for you, but together we will explore why some foods make you feel better than others and how to strategically use that feedback. Together we’ll co-create your health goals within reasonable time frames and actionable objectives so you know exactly what you’re working toward.

When you break down the word, micro, it means small, and biome means environment – small environment. The human microbiome refers to all of the bacteria that live in and on one’s body, collectively.

Similarly, the gut microbiome refers to the total sum of bacteria that live in a person’s gut. We refer to this gut bacteria interchangeably as the gut microbiome, or gut flora.

So, why exactly do we have these bacteria, and what do they do? The trillions of bacteria in our gut help us break down food, while at the same time creating essential nutrients for the body.

In my program, we’ll dive into how the gut microbiome affects our metabolism, hormones, and even libido! We’ll also reveal how bacteria can influence our mood, behaviors, and decision-making. This may give a whole new meaning to the circle of life!

Integrative Nutrition Plate†

The Integrative Nutrition Plate emphasizes the importance of local and organic produce, whole grains, high-quality proteins, plant-based fats, and water. It shows you how a plate should appear at mealtime and emphasizes the importance of proportions and portion size. To complete the picture, the plate is surrounded with lifestyle factors that create optimal health: relationship, career, physical activity and spirituality. I’ll introduce you to some of the healthiest foods on the planet and teach you how to find what’s healthiest for your unique body!

Bio-IINdividuality*

The concept of Bio-IINndividuality is the idea that each of us has unique food and lifestyle needs. One person’s food is another person’s poison, and that’s why fad diets tend to fail in the long run. Working on the principle of bio-individuality, I’ll support you to make positive changes that are based on your unique needs, lifestyle, preferences, and ancestral background.

Primary Food†

It’s easy to overlook all of the things that contribute to our sense of nourishment and fulfillment. It’s not just the food we eat that affects our health, but all of the other factors present in our daily lives. Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity, and a spiritual awareness are essential forms of nourishment. When these primary foods are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary. I will support you in achieving all of your goals, from eating the right foods for your body to living an inspired, fulfilling life.


Crowding Out††

Many nutrition experts give their clients a list of foods to avoid and foods to eat, which explains why so many people are turned off by nutrition. My approach is different – by eating and drinking foods that are good for you, you will naturally have less room and desire for unhealthy foods. Simply put, you will crowd out the unhealthy food in your diet. This takes a little practice to make happen, but I will support you along the way.

Deconstructing Cravings††

Cravings play a critical role in understanding what your body needs and shouldn’t be ignored. When you learn how to deconstruct your cravings and understand what they’re really telling you, you will be able to reclaim a sense of balance and harmony.
